Campaign of Awesomeness

Garrick learns masonry and maybe some empathy

Well that was a strange day and a half. After being ambushed in a basement by Artiana (I need to stop trusting people at first glance). We woke her up from her slumber to talk to her. At least that was what we were originally going to do. Eldon went full on dragon born and began threatening her with a knife to her neck. Apparently he really really really hates the clouded eye. Must be something to do with the elk. We got a lot of information out of her including the key information that a goddamn spell that would create an explosion was in the basement. During this time Eldon knocked her out another 3 or 4 times. Would not be surprised if she was speaking in tongues when she woke up. I threw her inside my pack with her legs sticking out and covered her with a cloak while we worked to sneak her inside the Inn. Eldon decided the best course of action was to babble at the innkeeper until he deemed him sufficiently distracted. The weirdest part was that he wasn’t even drunk yet. Either way it worked and we were able to get her upstairs. We took away her clothes so she couldn’t get away and threw a blanket on her while we proceeded to watch her all night.Well most of us did. Elf wandered off to do what elves do. ( I assume tree humping).

The next day Arj cast two spells on Artiana to make her answer more questions and not escape. I’m not sure why he needed two spells but what do I know about magic? And as Arj made sure to remind us today he does know magic. In any case Delwyn came back with another pet. He seems to really like dog shaped creatures. We used it to send for reinforcements from the stronghold because we found out that her companions were going to blow up the TEMPLE the very next night. After that we went to the basement to scope out what we could see. There was a tiny hole in the wall which we later discoevered had been made by Artiana. I realized that their plan was to blow up the temple from the inns basement so they would not be caught in the blast. It took us a while to reallize this however as none of us were masons and lacked stone experience. Hell the most experience I have with stone is when that asshole would make me set up walls around his tent for no reason. I realized today I may still be traumatized from that. Arj and I went to talk to guards and he slipped up so I began teasing him in front of the guard. After he asked me why I always do that and now I’m beginning to think the slavery may have effected me more then I thought. Is that why I treat everything as a joke? Something to think about. I apologized and will try to refrain from mocking him in public in the future. Either way I am very excited to kill some clouded eyes tomorrow night. I can see the reinforcements coming up the road now and I am sure between all of us we will make a foolproof plan.

Punching Our Way to Enlightenment
When investigation fails, try interrogation!

Today I went to speak to the refugees from the mountains. I was excited to do some actual monk work that didn’t involve just beating people up (not that I’m opposed to that, but I mainly came here for answers). Garrick, Obi, and Del came with me while Arj went to talk to the priest some more. He wanted to find out some more about the faith of Nenura, which I thought was a good idea. Most of what I’ve been hearing has been about the Clouded Eye and I want to know more about the actual religion. There’s been a lot of hatred towards them and it’s starting to get on my nerves. I may have to start meditating a little extra each day. Our group has already killed two unarmed, bound combatants and I’d like to avoid killing a third out of anger.

We asked around and found out that three people recently came to town. The first we went to was a girl named Artianna who was helping fix a roof somewhere. We made our way over and Garrick suggested I take the lead. I guess for some reason he felt a short, bald monk would easier to talk to than a large, heavily armed man, a somewhat less armed, grumpy elf, or a tiefling. We spoke to her and found out she had fled her farm after the Clouded Eye attacked and killed her family. She said they didn’t seem to be targeting them, but more like they were just coming down the mountain and attacked on a whim. She was also familiar with the magic fear that we had heard about. Unfortunately, she didn’t have much more information than we already had.

We then visited the other two refugees. One was working as a farmer after his shop was burned down by the Clouded Eye. The other was a girl named Vessa working in her aunt and uncle’s house. She spoke about how her father went out into the night to fight off the Clouded Eye when they attacked. I asked if he was a fighter and she said no, he just wanted to help. One thing Master Meilil often told us to do while traveling is to look for how the Tenets are shown by ordinary people. She said it was important to remember that while we study the Tenets a lot, they aren’t ours alone and are meant for everyone. Hearing about Vessa’s father was inspiring, and knowing that he died protecting his family from the Clouded Eye is making me even more determined to take them down.

I guess I wasn’t the only one wanting to get some answers, because we decided to keep watch that night and look for whoever was making the Clouded Eye graffiti in town and see what they knew. We went to the roof of the inn. The guy at the desk also said that a man came to town for a few days and visited Artianna recently, who apparently knew him. The inn guy seemed a little put off about that. I think he might have a little bit of a crush.

Arj had given us some more insight into the religion of Nenura and Delwyn thought to transform into an elk, one of her symbols, which I thought it was a pretty good idea. I also told Arj and Del that they were under no circumstances to kill any prisoner we captured. Part of that was my general aversion to killing unnecessarily, but frankly, part is just because we really need answers and anyone we capture is our best bet. I love our group, but we’re not the best at investigating.

Arj needed to rest in order to be able to use some of his more powerful spells, so long story short, we all sat on the roof while Arj slept in garbage behind the inn. We tied a rope to the back of the roof for quick descent and started keeping watch in shifts.

After a bit, Obi caught sight of a torch in the distance and she, Garrick, and I went to check it out. I was a little excited and fell, but Garrick caught me (glad Master Alvyn wasn’t here; I don’t need more people hearing the nickname Stumbleduck). Del had cast a spell on all of us to make it easier to sneak around. Well, most of us. Turns out Arj did such a good job hiding in garbage that Del couldn’t find him.

Obi, Garrick, and I lost track of the torch after it went out. Turns out we’re not so hot at sneaking or tracking. We’ll work on it. We eventually tracked the person back to the temple. They seemed to be sneaking about, which supported our theory that they were up to no good. Somehow, we lost them again at the temple and we got Del down from the roof. I woke up Arj, who quite reasonably proceeded to electrocute me, hurting me slightly. I managed to resist cracking him over the head with my quarterstaff and resolved to be more careful waking him in the future.

After failing to find the figure around the temple, Arj suggested breaking in and looking around. I was apprehensive about breaking in and wasn’t very convinced by his “it’s okay I’m friends with the priest” argument. I’m not sure Arj understands how “friends” work. Still, he’s probably right so I went along. Plus, it’s not like it would be the first time I’d been caught breaking into a temple. And I wasn’t even drunk this time!

Inside we found a storage room, a bedroom (no one woke up, thankfully), and a creepy staircase. We went downstairs and found a long, dark hallway. We walked down when all of a sudden, Garrick was hit by a crossbow bolt. He’s a big guy and took it well, then moved in to attack. It was Artianna! What?! Now I want answers even more! But first, fighting.

She shot at me, missing twice. Probably a good thing, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to test out that whole arrow catching thing they taught us at the monastery. Maybe next time. Del entangled Artianna at which point it became evident that the two statues behind her were not statues but rather gargoyles. Shit. Arj did a shiny thing with that giant diamond he insisted on buying that did a whole bunch of damage to the gargoyles. I guess it was a good purchase after all.

I then moved in and hit Artianna three times, knocking her out. Master Alvyn would have been proud, although I forgot to disrupt her ki. I’ll try to remember next time. A gargoyle then knocked me out, so I missed the rest of the battle. After I was healed and woken up, I’m told that Del was knocked out right after me and Obi, Garrick, and Arj finished off the gargoyles. Then Arj used a healing potion on Del, then she healed both me and Arj. I agree with Garrick that we should probably pool together some money for healing potions.

All in all, I think we did pretty well. We’re getting better at working together as a team. Now we have a prisoner who is probably a member of the Clouded Eye. Now maybe we’ll get some damn answers. And a drink. Maybe drink first.

Northwest is a Smelly Place

We ended up staying at an inn for which Arj used his spell to avoid paying. Me and Del shared a room. Also, we all played games (darts and chess) and nothing dangerous AT ALL took place, which I know because I did a spell or a perception check or something. Arj wooed lots of people with his storytelling and everybody drank while me and Del played chess. I think she beat me, and then she played a stranger and (I think) beat her. I have no idea (in-character) of what the barkeep was telling everybody else because me and Del were busy, and then everybody went to sleep. Next day we asked around town if anyone needed help and EVERYBODY brushed us off. They were dirty and gross anyway – good riddance. We traveled towards the nearest town to the northwest after Eldon had to figure out if “mommy said he could go” – he’s the only one tied to a mission. In the end, it was fine. On our way, me and Arj were talking in Infernal and he started having an existential crisis and then switched to Common so he could explain to everyone that his family was missing and they may or may not have something to do with the lights, and if so, he’s afraid to travel up the mountain because he doesn’t know what the other dragonborn will do to him. Man, this guy has more reasons than ME to be paranoid. And I made my palace explode – that’s plenty of guilt right there.

He wanted to go south, but it WA s clear to everyone in the party that north is where we must go if we hope to find an answer to the lights. We continued towards town, and on the way we failed completely at stealth AGAIN. There were these horrid flesh-rotted monsters, one of them stabbed me and it hurt horribly. We defeated them because we now have some great magic at our fingertips. Sleep really does do wonders for the old magic mind :D

When we got to town, people seemed reasonably wary of us. We smelled awful. They made us leave our weapons at the door. I thought to sleep outside, but prudence took faster hold on me than I care to admit. The next day we still were unsure of how to proceed

Del's Poetry #1
Alone Again

since his death I’ve been
Utterly Alone
but she fluttered in
and touched me
and made a crack
In My Stone

but of course
I Am Cursed
and those i want
to help so bad
they meet me
And End Up Worse

why has my life
Been Such Despair
i want to love
i want to live
but i cannot
It Isn’t Fair

one day i hope
This Pain Will End
and i will finally
be able to
make and keep
A Friend

Wolves and Goblins and Pixies - oh my!

I’m starting to become more comfortable with this group.

After defeating the goblin hoard and bug bear (so hideous, all of them), we questioned our goblin hostage. He provided us with some information and when we assessed that he had outlived his usefulness, I stabbed him in the stomach. It was a necessary move and I refuse to let anyone convince me otherwise. My only regret is losing Roseblossom’s full trust and affection, but I’m hoping I can rebuild that.
We then retuned to the goblin-infested pixie camp. (I got caught in a net on the way in and it was the most embarrassing experience of my 120 years, but that’s irrelevant.) We were quite successful in overthrowing the goblin tyrants, thanks to a combination spell attack between myself and the dragon man. He’s starting to look like a useful ally. I was able to use Wild Shape for the first time, an ability Bryn told me lots about during my Druid training. I really miss him sometimes. He was the only one who truly understood me. I wonder if my parents…… nevermind. Irrelevant. No use in waxing poetic about those who are probably long dead.
What was I saying? Ah, right. Wild Shape. I became a Dire Wolf, and the power surge was like nothing I’d ever felt before. All of my physical abilities were amplified. I was also able to communicate with the wolves that those monstrous goblins kept tied up. One of them broke free and was killed, but I managed to convince the other one to join us on our journey. She will be another great ally, I believe. I’ve always wanted an animal companion. Bryn was always getting animals to trust us and keep us company, and I’ve spoken with a few before, but being able to truly communicate with one like that… it was incredible. Animal form feels so much more real than simply using a spell to mimic the ability. I’m going to enjoy this new power immensely.
Oh, also I saved all the pixies, single handedly, they are all now in my debt, forever.
But anyway.
I’m looking forward to the days ahead for the first time since Bryn’s death. Let’s hope I’m not wrong.

That time running away kind of worked?

I hate taking the late shift. If I was still in Phog Tine’ I would never give the same person the late shift every night for a week. Regardless of that my partners for tonight’s watch were pretty strange. Three of them refused to give me their names, So for now they are elf, one arm and horns and the other was my old drinking buddy Eldon. Man I have not seen that guy in forever. He seemed well and was more then willing to try and make small talk while we walked around the camp.
On our third pass we heard a scream coming from the woods. One arm ran after it and I sensing an opportunity to hone my skills followed. He cast some kind of spell that made a glowing light figure run ahead of us so that I could see. Eventually we saw a pixie cowering in the bush. She asked us to help her but before she could say anything else we saw a goblin. One arm tried to yell at it and shoot it with a crossbow. Both failed miserably. Then after I had decapitated it in one swipe he began yelling at me about “leaving it alive to question” as if he didn’t just try to shoot it in the face. I chose to ignore him and we asked the pixie what was the matter. She said goblins had invaded her relatives camp. One arm was very concerned with her safety but I knew we needed to let the Dame know what was happening.
We returned to the camp and told Eldon, Horns and Elf what had happened. Elf said he? she? would go with me to inform the Dame. I’;m not sure why since she didn’t know the story either but One arm stayed to tell the others what had happened.
Eventually I made it to the Dame and told her what happened. Otir told me that we should wait until tomorrow to go invade a goblin camp and he’s definitely right. I returned to tell my fellows guards that if we wanted to help we should set out tomorrow and elf reminded me and everyone that the Dame had promised us supplies. We all then returned to our barracks to sleep except the Elf and Roseblossom (the pixie) who chose to sleep outside? I will never understand elves. (Side note as were walking up I swear I heard horns say something about burning down a castle? Look into later. Also she thrashed me at dragons chess. Need a rematch)
The next day we were off after a brief stop at the wizards for some potions. i wanted all the front line fighters to have them since we only had three but ol’ one arm insisted on getting one. I don’t think hes used to working with a group but I would never stand between something that might bite me and what it wants.
While walking Horns filled me in about a little more of her past. (Also her name is also either princess or Obi) Apparently she accidentally burned down her castle? I don’t know how that could be an accident but she seemed pretty sincere. We also found out we are both nobility so now we can make fun of the commoners together. Nothing happened until Roseblossom told us she heard voices ahead. When we went up to see what it was once again One arm started talking and then we were involved in a fight! I should say Arj because he told me his name on the walk but Arj is short for a very long dragon name and in my head he will always be One Arm.
One of them was a high elf and our elf went into a little bit of a fit as she? he? shot it once and then ran off to hide in the trees? The other two were humans and all seemed to be able to cast things so it was a pretty tough fight. I killed the high elf after he shocked me and then tried to climb up a cliff by jumping. It went incredibly poorly. We killed one and took the other one prisoner. We got a bit of information out of him something about an all seeing lady and living on a mountain with those weird lights? We wont be getting anymore information out of him as Arj took it upon himself to slit the guys throat. He then began crying. I guess he’d never killed anything by hand before?(haha hand he only has one. I shouldn’t mock since he said it was a sad story but after the running I feel entitled to my jokes)
As we got closer to the Goblin camp we noticed a variety of traps. We ruined one and then Eldon decided we should all be sneaky. I never do sneaky. I go clank clank clank and am a huge person but no one listens to me. Sigh, long story short we attracted a small patrol of goblins and killed them. Once we did that we walked a bit more until elf and I saw a ton of goblins just lounging around. Eldon and I returned so we could cover the trap and hide goblin bodies. Roseblossom went to scout and the others we assumed could hide.I thought they would be ok without us. I could not have been more wrong.
As we were walking back discussing our favorite jam flavors we heard a horn blow. Breaking into a run we watched as Arj and Elf ran past us and saw Horns was unconscious between two goblins. Eldon slapped one and I skewered one before bashing the other over the head. I then picked up Horns and me and Eldon began to run. Glancing behind us we saw that the goblins were riding wolves and knowing they would catch us decided to turn and fight.
Eldon gave horns a potion and I skewered a wolf with a spear. Then it entered my range so I rammed it with my halberd. It almost hurts being this good. Eldon killed the goblin and Obi smacked the wolf. We started doing pretty well and what do you know that’s when Arj and Elf decided to come back and help. We engaged in pitched combat with a bugbear and two more goblins. Luckily emerging victorious when Roseblossom returned to turn a goblin into a frog and Horns did some kind of cool move with her sword and cut the bug bears head off. I’m not sure how I feel about the people who left Horns but maybe they’ll prove themselves at the goblin camp. Or maybe spell casters just like running away. Also I still dont know elfs name. I should find out at some point

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
